Y: A Novel by Marjorie Celona
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
A newborn baby is abandoned on the front door of the Y, in the winter. A man sees the girl who left the baby, but instead of following her, he alerts the Y personnel.
The baby is fostered and very predictably is abused by a few foster parents, until she is adopted by a single mother, Miranda, with a daughter almost the same age.
All goes well for a number of years, although Miranda does seem to favor her own daughter, she gives the baby, Shannon, a lot of care and they bond. Up until Shannon decides that she needs to know who it was that gave her up on the steps of the Y.
