The Devil of Nanking by Mo Hayder
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This was a very different type of story. If you have a weak stomach beware.
I wondered how an English woman writer would handle this topic, but Ms Hayder is phenomenal. The story held me right up to the very end. It unfolded in a most natural way, nothing forced or dragged.
A woman is obsessed with a story about the Japanese and what they did to the citizens in Nanking in 1937. It is the account of one girl's quest to find the truth and an old man's quest to find a child that he lost before she had a chance to live.
