War Horse by Michael Morpurgo
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This was a rare book that comes along very seldom. It brought to light a subject that had never occurred to me before; that horses fought during WWI. A young colt is bought by a drunken farmer one day and roughly brought home. The son of the house, Albert, names him Joey and makes a great horse out of him, however, the drunken father needs money and eventually sells him to the army. The trials of the horses in war torn Europe is just pitiful and heart wrenching.
An excellent read and a recommendation for young people to read this book. A lot to learn as well as good entertainment.
