The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert

The Signature of All ThingsThe Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a beautiful, wide sweeping story. Henry Whittaker was "low born" in England but with his intelligence, he rose to be the richest man in Philadelphia in the pharmaceutical trade.

He and his Dutch wife Beatrix gave birth to Alma, and she was a chip off the old block as well in intelligence. She immersed herself in botany. Her education was very broad and she spoke several languages.

Henry enjoyed buying out private libraries and Alma was completely in charge of the library. Her adopted sister, Prudence, had very little interest in the library.

Alma's story is made of years of study, loneliness, unrequited love and travel all over the world.

I became very fond of Alma throughout the book and will miss her now that the read is finished.

A thoroughly enjoyable read.

The Hypnotist's Love Story by Liane Moriarty

The Hypnotist's Love StoryThe Hypnotist's Love Story by Liane Moriarty
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love the way this author can take an unusual topic and make it into a very interesting and believable story.

A woman, Ellen, is a hypnotherapist with quite an array of clients. She is also in her mid thirties and is starting to wonder if she will ever meet Mr. Right. After a few failed relationships, she meets Patrick through an internet dating site.

Patrick is a widower with a young son and as if that already wasn't enough extra baggage, he also had his very own stalker. Yes, he had his stalker, Saskia, who is absolutely "everywhere" that he is for the last three years.

A thoroughly enjoyable read.

Black Out by Lisa Unger

Ophelia (Annie) just doesn't know what is happening to her. She has experiences which often turn out to be her imagination. She escaped from a very troubled home with a violent man and then escaped from him. However, dark dreams plague her and mysterious people are around her.
As Annie, she has a husband who loves her and their daughter, Victory.

The writing is brilliant, moving from first person to third person seamlessly. It took me awhile to realize that and when I did I was mesmerized, and "hooked".

A thoroughly enjoyable read.

Iron House by John Hart

Iron HouseIron House by John Hart
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Excellent read. Two babies were found near a creek, one almost newborn and the other about ten months. They are brothers and are taken to an orphanage called Iron House located on Iron Mountain.

Their lives are very hard for years until one day a lady turns up with the intention of adopting both of them. Not quite soon enough though because the oldest boy has just run off.

A great story with lots of interesting characters. Just a heads up that schizophrenia plays a big.
