The Healing by Jonathan Odell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Granada is a story teller and healer from the time just before abolition of slavery. She tells her story to a young girl who has lost her parents and somehow in the telling, she "heals" her.
This was a book that could easily have been a true memoir. There were many "true" issues about plantations that really made you stop. In my case I discovered that the plantations were laden with snakes and alligators and the workers had to cope with that challenge in the fields. Living in Canada, I guess I had never given that aspect a thought. How horrible!
An excellent read.
