The Keeper of Lost Causes: The First Department Q Novel by Jussi Adler-Olsen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Excellent! The best book I have read in ages. Carl and his assistant (who was hired to do the cleaning) are a great pair. This is the first in the series and I am looking forward to further books to be translated into English.
Previously, Carl, a police detective, was shot while one partner was killed and the other made paralyzed for life. After some time off Carl returns to work, very reluctantly and is given a new task. To set up department Q that will "look into" some cases that are mysteries and that the government feels should get some attention. It isn't a cold case department exactly. Carl spends most of his time dozing and smoking. He is suffering from a form of shock or depression since the shootings. He isn't very interested in his new department and feels that he was just stuck down in the basement, which suits him just fine.
