Review: The Innocent

The Innocent The Innocent by Harlan Coben
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Love HC. But not this one. This fell short somewhere along the road, I felt it meandered and I was not drawn in. Our protag had spent some time in gaol, served his time and was attempting to redeem his life. This was not meant to be, and thus starts a cat and mouse chase involving his lovely wife.

The use of second person narrative at the end added another menacing touch, but it didn't deliver for me as a whole. This author is one that I will read no matter what, so I don't really mind that he may churn out the occasional dud, I always look forward to many more from him. Committed, I guess?!

Really raw, rough, sex over and over. We know what happens in prisons and how many ways can you say it!!!

Good writing, bad plot. Just not my cup of tea.

Review: The River

The River The River by Cheryl Kaye Tardif
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Finished this book. I loved the setting and the adventure, portage and canoeing, camping and hiking. Loved all that. But it took a turn that just wasn't my cup of tea at all.

Review: Find You First

Find You First Find You First by Linwood Barclay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Excellent story. Linwood Barclay just keeps getting better and better.

There are hints of real life people in the book, but not enough to name them. See if you can get the same impression.

Miles, a self made millionaire businessman who created "apps" and made his fortune, has been diagnosed with Huntington's Chorea, a terrible disease for which there is no cure and is, apparently, hereditary. His parents were killed in a car accident early on so Miles and his brother Gilbert were never made aware that they could have this disease.

Miles has never married and doesn't have children to pass the disease down to...or does he.

A very well written, absorbing account that will grab you and hold you until the  very last page.

Review: The Affair

The Affair The Affair by Danielle Steel
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Not sure if this book was even believable. There are four sisters, each one very successful and very different. When one of the husbands go astray, has an affair with a young actress and has a baby with her, the reaction is that she should divorce him. This is his second affair. Apparently French people have different opinions on this type of behaviour.

A bit of a frustrating read.

Review: Project Hail Mary

Project Hail Mary Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
My rating: 0 of 5 stars

Absolutely fantastic. Not sure when I became a grandmother, space nerd, but I do love Andy Weir's books.

Dr. Grace is sent on a mission to try to save the world when he meets up with another space traveller attempting the same thing. They find ways of helping each other.

Excellent read. More than five stars.

Review: You Are Not Alone

You Are Not Alone You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Shay Miller wants to find love, but it eludes her. She wants to be fulfilled, but her job is a dead end. She wants to belong, but her life is increasingly lonely.

Until Shay meets the Moore sisters. Cassandra and Jane live a life of glamorous perfection, and always get what they desire. When they invite Shay into their circle, everything seems to get better. Shay would die for them to like her. She may have to.

A nice, long read.
